About 500 people should secure employment by the end of the year with the completion of Leefound Food Stuff Company Limited.
This announcement was made by a Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Robert Ahomka Lindsey at the ground breaking ceremony of the company in Ningo Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region.
The Leefound Food Stuff Company Ghana Limited was incorporated in Ghana on 19th January this year in response to the governments industrialization drive.
The company will produce Tomato Paste and spices and other condiments for the Ghanaian and West African Markets.
The two major shareholders undertaking the project are Grand Rise Food Company Ltd and Tianjin Limmin Condiments Company Ltd of China who are jointly investing an initial capital of three million dollars with additional capital investments in the near future.
Speaking to Citi Business News at the ground breaking ceremony of the company, Robert Ahomnka-Lindsey said efforts will be put in place to ensure the raw materials for the company are sourced locally
“As a ministry we will ensure that the resources for the factory are sourced locally from our farmers here because that is the only way there will be an effective value chain”, he said.
He added, “We cannot immediately force them to source the raw materials they will use for the operation of the factory but eventually we know they will, as we have already agreed on that”.
On her part, the Coordinator of the One District  One Factory Initiative, Gifty Ohene Konadu said the company will get all the support it needs.
“As a District Coordinator it is my job to ensure that if the operations of the factory are being affected by bad roads, I address that and also if there are any issues with the Foods and Drugs Authority or any other authority , I work with them to address their issues”.
The President of the Ghana Chinese Business Association, Tang Hong, assured that the China Business Community will bring in more businesses to support the One District, One Factory Initiative.
“As the president of the Chinese Business Association, I give my assurance that I will bring more investors to Ghana to take part in this great initiative, the one district, one factory”.
The project is one of 14 projects out of a total of 57 that have so far received approval from government to start operations.
