28 final year students receive government scholarship in Keta

Twenty eight final year students from eight Senior High Schools in the Keta Municipality in the Volta Region of Ghana have been awarded government scholarships from the Scholarship Secretariat.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Keta Municipal ICT conference hall the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Seth Yormewu, said education is one of the topmost priorities of the government, thus ensuring it is assessable to every Ghanaian especially the free SHS.

He however noted that unfortunately those in their final year could not get the opportunity for the free SHS. According to him, the scholarship program has been in existence for a long time before the introduction of the free SHS policy by the current government but unfortunately some brilliant but needy students couldn't get it at the time, meanwhile some parents are unable to afford to pay the fees for their wards in their final year, thus the purpose of the government scholarship to the deserving students.

Hon. Seth Yormewu indicated he was hopeful about 100 students will benefit from this scholarship and he will make sure they get it before end of the year.

Mr. Joseph Kujo Adranyi, the Anlo constituency NPP chairman applauded the government for the good works it was doing to improve education in the country.  He encouraged the students to study hard and put in their best in their academic work.
He added that the scholarship was not given to wards belonging to specific political parties but to deserving students within the municipality.

Parents and students who were present were grateful to the MCE and the government for the timely intervention.
