_The word *Eschatology* comes from two Greek words: Eschatos, meaning "last things" or "farthest". It is used 58 times in the Bible including John 6:40; 11:24; 12:48 and logos meaning "word". Eschatology is that part of theology that deals with last things or end times - the end of the world, heaven and hell, death the Second coming, the Resurrection, the Great Tribulation, the Judgement, the Millennium and Eternity._

_In the Bible, there are four words used to describe the place for the dead:_
_1. *Sheol:* the Hebrew word for the place of the dead, is used sixty - five(65) times in the Old Testament. (Eg. Numbers 16:28-33)_
_2. *Hades:* grave or definite place of conscious punishment; it occurs forty - two (42) times in the New Testament (Rev. 1:18; 6:8; 1 Cor. 15:5)._
_3. *Gehenna:* is formed from two words " Hinnom" and "Valley" which in Hebrew means the Valley of Hinnom. This place is outside Jerusalem and used to describe Hell. Jesus used it 11 times. (Matt. 5:22; Mark 3:29)_
_4. *Tartarus:* it is used to refer to the deepest or lowest point of Hades (2 Peter 2:4). It is probably temporary._

_*The Description of Hades(Luke 16:19-31)*_
_It has three compartments:_
_a. *Abraham's Bosom/Paradise:* - this was the place of comfort before Christ came. Jesus descended to this place at His death and the event is described in Luke 23:39-43._
_b. *The Great Fixed Gulf:* also called the bottomless pit in Rev. 20:3 and 2 Peter 2:4._
_c. *The Place of Torment:* unbelievers go there immediately after death and they are conscious._

_*Other Description of Hades:*_
_▪Outer Darkness (Matt. 18:12)_
_▪The Lake of Fire(Rev. 19:20)_
_▪Eternal Punishment_

_To be continued from *The Place for the Dead in Christ - Paradise.*_
